Toyota

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal called "U.S. Intensifies Toyota Probe" is about how the U.S. regulators stepped up their investigation of Toyota Motor Corp due to the fact that they think Toyota didn't conduct safety recalls in a timely manner. Toyota will shut down two U.S. Plants to adjust their inventory level, this will reduce their sales by about 80,000 vehicles. Lawmakers have questioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the Toyota problem of the sticky gas pedal and sudden acceleration. The NHTSA is trying to get Toyota to provide paper work revealing how and when the company learned of these very serious defects, which came to over 6 million recalls. Toyota is looking into a new buyer and enhanced warranty programs to bring back customers.

I feel that this Toyota situation is ridiculous, how can a car company have over 6 million recalls? Somewhere along the production line someone made a very serious error, a error that took the lives of 34 people. A sticky gas pedal and sudden acceleration, sounds like to me that no one was checking for these very serious problems. In this article it mentions that an auto safety expert and a consumer advocate have felt that the NHTSA has become very relaxed on car makers when it comes to vehicle safety. If thats the case, then how do we know if the NHTSA is doing this to all the car companies, letting the little things slide. That's outrageous, there is millions of lives that drive every single day, someone letting a little thing slide can add up to a very serious problem, like we see hear with Toyota.
